How to successfully upload files

There are multiple ways to upload files to Strike Graph, but be aware of some limitations

When you have been assigned as an evidence owner in the Strike Graph platform, you’ll first want to review the control language and evidence description to ensure that the file you plan to upload aligns with both (and remember - you can attach multiple files to a single evidence item if needed). Once you’ve made any necessary changes and know which documents you plan to use, it’s time to decide how you would like to upload your evidence to the platform.

Strike Graph offers two ways to add your supporting evidence to the platform: manual upload or upload via one of our integrations. There are pros and cons to both, and some types of evidence are more suited to one method than the other. Your organization will likely end up using a combination of both methods, so let’s talk about what they look like, and best practices for successfully getting your evidence into the platform and ready for audit!

Integrations:

Strike graph offers a number of integration options, and we’re adding more all the time. If there are additional integrations that would be useful to your organization, just let us know — we prioritize new integrations based on customer demand, so let us know what you need!

Each integration is enabled in the Integrations Manager, and set up is similar to integrations in other apps you might be using. Once you have enabled an integration, you can use it to attach evidence directly from the third party system manually (for one time collections), or use automated collection option for continuous collection based on the expiration schedule.

If using an integration for a manual collection, click on one of the "Attach" buttons and then navigate to the Integrations tab. From there, select the configured integration that you would like to use, and complete there required steps to attach files from that integration.

Desktop upload:

To upload files from your desktop (like screenshots or other documents that aren't accessible from the provided integrations), following these steps:

  • Navigate to the Evidence detail page

  • Click one of the “Attach” buttons

  • In the upload modal, you can either drag files into the drop zone, or click on the drop zone area to browse files from your computer

  • Once you’ve selected the file(s) you want to attach for that evidence item, finalize the upload by clicking the “Attach” button

  • If you need to add another attachment later, just click “Add Attachments”

Attachment limitations:

Whether you are choosing to upload evidence manually or using integrations to automatically collect evidence, you’ll need to follow a few simple rules:

  • Avoid .zip files if possible; they cannot be read by Verify AI, cannot be previewed, requiring download to view, and are generally disliked by auditors

  • If you’re having trouble uploading a file, double check to be sure it isn’t open on your workstation - if it is, you’ll need to close it before uploading.

  • Very long filenames can cause issues when the export is extracted or “unzipped” on windows computers. We recommend keeping filenames relatively short as a best practice - a maximum of 20 characters is suggested.

  • With manual uploading, you can upload up to 5 files at once, but it's recommended that you avoid adding too many different types of files to a single evidence to ensure that the Evidence's description is an accurate representation of what's being collected
