Artificial Intelligence Acceptable Use Policy Template

An AI Acceptable Use Policy governs how generative AI (GenAI) tools may be used in internal business processes. This policy will guide staff on the appropriate use of GenAI tools in their day-to-day activities while being mindful of the risks associated with these tools.

Considering the following when drafting your AI Acceptable Use Policy:

• The risks (data loss, privacy, hallucinations, incorrect but seeming OK responses) of using AI.

• Have all proposed AI services go through an IT/Legal risk review.

• State that only approved GenAI services can be used.

• To address hallucinations, have the policy explicitly state that no AI output can be placed into any business system, document, or storage without manual review for correctness.
