Custom Labels

Tag risks, controls, and evidence with your own categories for flexible organization

Written By Micah

Compliance frameworks give your program structure, but every organization also has its own internal categories — business units, project names, audit phases, priority tiers — that don't map neatly to any standard. Custom Labels let you tag risks, controls, and evidence items with your own organization-defined categories, so you can filter, search, and report on your compliance data the way your team actually thinks about it.

What are Custom Labels?

Custom Labels are workspace-wide tags that you create and manage. Once created, a label can be applied to any risk, control, or evidence item in your organization. Labels are purely organizational: they don't affect how Strike Graph evaluates compliance status, and they don't change how evidence maps to controls or criteria. They give you an additional axis for grouping and filtering your data.

Common uses include tagging items by business unit, product line, internal project, audit cycle, geographic region, or any other grouping that is meaningful to your team.

Creating and managing labels

Managers can create and edit labels from the Labels management interface. Each label has a name that is unique within your organization, and can be given a description. Once created, a label is available for anyone in the organization to apply.

To access label management, go to Workspace Settings. From there you can create new labels, rename existing ones, and remove labels that are no longer needed.

Applying labels

Labels can be applied to risks, controls, and evidence items from each item's detail page. You can apply multiple labels to a single item, and the same label can be applied across different item types.

Filtering and searching by label

Once labels are in use, they appear as filter options in list views and search results. You can filter your control library, evidence repository, or risk register by one or more labels to narrow your view to just the items that belong to a particular category.

Labels are also included in CSV exports (but not the audit export), so filtered views carry through to spreadsheets and reports shared with stakeholders.
