Datadog Integration

Collect evidence from your Datadog monitoring and observability environment

Written By Micah

The Datadog integration connects Strike Graph to your Datadog monitoring environment, enabling automated evidence collection for controls related to infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and incident management. If your compliance program requires evidence that monitoring is in place, alerts are configured, or incidents are being tracked, this integration collects that data directly from Datadog.

Two ways to collect evidence

Strike Graph offers two methods for collecting evidence from Datadog:

  • Bridge API — use single GET API calls to collect basic information from any available API endpoint.

  • Script Runner — write or customize collection scripts that call Datadog's API endpoints. Script Runner gives you full control over exactly what data is collected and how it is formatted.

Both methods provide read-only access: Strike Graph retrieves data from your Datadog environment but never modifies it.

What you can collect

Evidence you might collect from Datadog includes:

  • Monitor configurations and alert policies

  • Dashboard definitions and SLO configurations

  • Incident management records

  • Log pipeline and retention settings

  • User access and role assignments

  • Security monitoring rules

The specific data available depends on your Datadog plan and API permissions. Refer to Datadog's API documentation for details on available endpoints.

Setting up the Datadog integration

Prerequisites

  • An active Datadog account with API access

  • A Datadog API key and application key with read permissions

  • Appropriate permissions within Strike Graph to manage integrations

Step 1: Configure the integration

Navigate to the Integrations Manager in Strike Graph and locate the Datadog integration card. Click Add Integration and enter your API key and application key. Strike Graph validates the connection before saving.

Step 2: Collect evidence

Navigate to the evidence item where you want to attach Datadog data. Click Attach and select your Datadog integration from the list of available sources. Define the API endpoint and parameters for the data you want to collect, then submit. For ongoing compliance, configure automated collection so Strike Graph recollects evidence on a schedule.
